Volunteer for the Truckee River Clean Up on September 29th

The 10th Annual Truckee River Clean Up is set for Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 9 – noon. Volunteers are needed at various sites along the river for everything from trail building to general trash pick up. Last year over 300 volunteers pulled 13 tons of trash from the river and stenciled 60 storm drains to keep future dumping out of the river. Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is working in partnership with Nevada Eco-Net, City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada and the with support of the Community Foundation and the Truckee River Fund to find even more volunteers for this year’s event. Click here for more information or click here to volunteer!

Litter Index Results Are In

On July 24, volunteers helped survey the Truckee Meadows for litter during the annual Litter Index. The results indicated that while the overall cleanliness of the Truckee Meadows and its surrounding areas has slightly decreased, neighborhood areas continue to get cleaner. The litter index is a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful that provides a starting point for the litter prevention process.
