Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is dedicated to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement.

Join Us to Celebrate Our New Office

KTMB has moved, but not to far! We are now located across the street from our old office, at 2000 Del Monte Ln. in Reno, in the basement of the white house at the bottom of Windy Hill. To celebrate our move and in the spirit of the season, we invite you to drop in at our open house on November 30, 2006 from 4:30-6:30.

Please RSVP to maia@beautiful.reno.nv.us so that we can make sure to have enough refreshments for everyone.

Turn Your Old SBC Phonebooks Into Trees for Local Parks

From November 17 through December 22 for every ton of phonebooks recycled at local parks, AT&T will donate 17 trees!

Click here for more park information

Phonebooks can also be recycled at any Scolari's, Sak ‘N Save, AT&T/Nevada Bell offices, or on top of your curbside recyclables.

Christmas Tree Recycling -- a KTMB Tradition

Now is the time for trimming the tree, but what do you do with it after the holidays are over? For the last 12 years KTMB has coordinated the annual Christmas Tree Recycling campaign for the Truckee Meadows area. But we need your help! Volunteers are needed at each of our three drop-off sites between Tuesday, December, 26 2006 through Monday, January, 15, 2007 to help in four hour shifts. The drop off sites are located at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, and Shadow Mt. Sports Complex in Sparks and shifts are from 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm. Volunteers can choose to work for one shift or one full day. Volunteer groups and corporations are encouraged to bring their banner!

Laugh for a Good Cause Fundraiser a HUGE Success

Our first ever fundraiser at Catch A Rising Star at the Silver Legacy in September was a great night that included lots of laughs and a silent auction.

Special thanks to: Catch A Rising Star at the Silver Legacy, Scolari’s Food & Drug Company, Mindful Images, Patagonia, Thunder Canyon Golf Course, Metro Car Wash, Genesis Salon & Medical Spa, Reno Lawn & Landscape, Arrow Creek Golf Course, Keep America Beautiful, Eldorado Casino, Vintage Wine Shop, Washoe County Parks & Open Space, Baskets by Melodi, Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill, Cingular Wireless, Mt. Rose Ski Resort, Bobo’s Mogul Mouse Ski & Patio, Foley’s Irish Pub, House of Orchid Chinese Restaurant, Gary Meckler, Jim Van Winkle and Soroptimist International of Reno, as well as everyone who came out to the event for making this first annual fundraiser such a tremendous success.

River Cleanup brings out volunteers to clean up the Truckee River

On September 16, over 350 volunteers cleaned over 88 yards (13 tons) of waste in and around the Truckee River. Volunteers also stenciled 60 storm drains to prevent future dumping into the river. This waste was collected at areas along the river from Crystal Peak Park in Verdi to Cottonwood Park in Sparks!

Thank you to all of the volunteers, The Truckee River Fund, our partners and event sponsors for making this event such a HUGE success!!!

Making a Difference at City of Reno Parks

Over 150 volunteers came out on Make A Difference Day to clean up over 4,500 pounds (2.25 tons) of trash and weeds at Idlewild and Paradise Parks in Reno. The event was coordinated by KTMB, Great Basin Institute, and the City of Reno Parks and Rec. Department. Make A Difference is a national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.

Be Responsible for Your Butt!

We are teaming up with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony to remind smokers to be responsible for their butts! Cigarette litter, litter created by packaging and cigarette filters, is one of the most common items found in cleanups around the country. The smoke shops on 2001 E 2nd St in Reno and 1962 Pyramid Way in Sparks will be giving away free pocket ashtrays. These pocket ashtrays offer a convenient way for smokers to put their cigarette butts in a proper receptacle instead of throwing it on the ground. Those picking up a pocket ashtray will also be asked to take a survey on the problem of cigarette litter and how we can best prevent it. The results will be used to assess where more cigarette receptacles are needed in the Truckee Meadows. For more information visit, http://www.ktmb.org/ciglitter.htm

Make a Difference by Adopting a "Spot"

KTMB would like to recognize cleanups that have taken place from September though mid November.

These sponsors include: Cub Pack 512, Hidden Valley Homeowners Association, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Jim Smith, Leadership Reno/Sparks, McQueen High School, Holy Cross Catholic Community / FWS, Philip Duane Johncock & Fun Unlimited Inc., Spanish Springs Presbyterian Church, New Life Baptist Church, Girl Scout Troop #392, Jr. National Honor Society of Damonte Ranch, Damote Rach High School Hispanic Club, Nevada Wilderness Project, Intuit: We Care and Give Back Program, The Sprinkle Family, Allstate Insurance: Stan & Tenesa Mentzer, and High Desert Montessori School.

If you have not completed your fall cleanup, you still have time to get your cleanup in before it gets to cold. Spring cleanups start in March. We would also like to thank our newest members of the Adopt-A-Spot community, Miller Heiman and Reno Lawn and Landscape! This program is coordinated in cooperation with the City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County and Waste Management. For more information on how to become a sponsor visit http://www.ktmb.org/spot.htm.
