Over 88 Yards of Trash Collected During the Truckee River Cleanup

From Verdi to Sparks over 300 volunteers came together to help clean up the great outdoors during the 9 th annual Truckee River Cleanup from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, September 16 at various parks around the Truckee Meadows.

With the help of over 300 volunteers we were able to clean up over 88 yards (13 tons) of waste in and around the Truckee River. As well as stencil 60 storm drains to prevent future dumping into the river. This waste was collected at Crystal Peak, Mayberry, Oxbow, Riverside Park, John Champion and Rock Park.

Following the cleanup volunteers were thanked with a BBQ at Rock Park sponsored by Albertson’s and the Great Basin Brewing Co. Other partners and sponsors include: Nevada Econet, Truckee River Fund, Community Foundation of Western Nevada, Washoe County, The City of Sparks, The City of Reno, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Tahoe Whitewater Tours, Truckee River Yacht Club, Champions of the Truckee River, REI, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, dSk and Starbucks Coffee.
