Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's Christmas Tree Recycling Program Returns with Holidays

RENO, NV - Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful announces the 15th annual Christmas Tree Recycling campaign for residents of the greater Reno-Sparks area. Tree collection will begin Monday, December 26 and continue through Monday, January 16 at three community drop-off sites: Washoe County's Bartley Ranch and Rancho San Rafael Regional Parks and Sparks' Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. Collection sites will be open daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm. A minimum $3 donation to support this program and other valuable community programs is requested.

"As the regional population expands and awareness of this program continues to grow, we'd like to see more and more trees recycled each year," said Christi Cakiroglu, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful executive director. "By recycling cut Christmas Trees, residents help preserve landfill space, reduce illegal dumping and contribute to cleaner air as fewer green trees are burned."

Recycled trees will be chipped into mulch, which is used year-round in park, river and open space projects to prevent weed growth, soil erosion and promote beautification.

Christmas Tree Recycling is coordinated by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful in partnership with the City of Sparks Parks and Recreation, Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space, City of Reno Urban Forestry, Nevada Division of Forestry, Recycle America Alliance, Sierra Pacific Power Company, the Washoe County Health Department's Environmental Health Services, Tholl Fence, and numerous volunteer groups and individuals.

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is dedicated to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement. Volunteers are still needed for this project. For more information call Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful at 775-851-5185 or visit www.ktmb.org.
