Past AmeriCorps Testimonials 2021

"Working with KTMB as an AmeriCorps gave me the opportunity to directly serve my community and make a visible impact. Getting involved in a local nonprofit like KTMB allowed me to make a difference for students in Washoe County by teaching them how to be environmental stewards as well as allowing me to grow as an educator. KTMB supported me to grow professionally and personally over my year of service as I helped KTMB's Warriors Program grow as well. Americorps is a great way to connect with your community and to make the positive changes that you want to see happen."

~ Carly Henry

“During my time at KTMB I not only gained professional skills ranging from program development, volunteer coordination, community education, and sustainability but I have also gained lifelong knowledge that has inspired my own environmental stewards journey. The staff at KTMB went above and beyond to help prepare me for my future endeavours and I am grateful for my time as an AmeriCorp with a team I am proud to call my friends.”

~ Hailey Brown

“Having graduated from university with an environmental science degree, I hoped to pursue a career in the sciences or research field. While attempting to find a job, I stumbled across an AmeriCorps position in my home town that focused on educating our community about STEM. To get my foot in the door and serve my community, I decided to take the position; little did I know that this position would change my career path!
After having served a year with that AmeriCorps program, I developed a passion for STEM education and the classroom. To build up my resume and to help me go back to school to become a science educator, I served for another AmeriCorps term with another non-profit in my area that also focused on STEM education. My last day with AmeriCorps was in 2020, and I am happy to say that I am currently in graduate school working on becoming a secondary science teacher. Both of my years with AmeriCorps truly changed my life — I don’t know where I would be right now if I had never served!
AmeriCorps can change your life, can help you develop a love for your community (or even communities across the country), and can help you build friendships and connections across the country. Serve with AmeriCorps!“
