Food Drive for Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe
The Truckee River Community Advisory Team and KTMB are working together to bring non-perishable foods to our downstream neighbors of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
Drop off your donations at the KTMB office (2601 Plumas St. Reno, NV, 89521) Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM, through January 9th. We are accepting unexpired spices, salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, coffee, cooking oil, flour, pasta, jams/jellies, boxed meals, and dry milk.

Planting & Reseeding at Huffaker Hills
Join Gearhut, Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, and Friends of Nevada Wilderness for a day of community stewardship at Huffaker Hills on December 7th and 14th from 10 AM to 2 PM!
They are looking for volunteers to help revegetate the Huffaker Hills area, which was burned in the Barron Fire in July 2025. Volunteers will be native planting a variety of plants and then spreading seeds throughout the open space.
Snacks, water, and tools will be provided. Please dress accordingly with winter weather likely; closed-toed shoes and long pants are required. Volunteers will meet at Huffaker Hills Trailhead: Alexander Lake Rd, Reno, NV 89521. Sign up at the button below!
Purpose & Paper: A Sustainable Holiday Workshop
Did you know that paper is the 3rd most thrown-away thing in Washoe County? KTMB is teaming up with the Holland Project to bring you the hands-on Purpose and Paper: A Sustainable Holiday Workshop on Saturday, December 13th, from 10 AM - 12 PM.
Participants will learn the art of handmade papermaking using recycled materials while exploring waste-reduction strategies this holiday season. Whether you're an artist, an environmental advocate, or just curious about sustainable crafts, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn, create, and contribute to a greener planet – one sheet of paper at a time.

Christmas Lights Recycling 2025- Sponsored by Greater Nevada Credit Union
KTMB and Greater Nevada Credit Union are teaming up to help you get rid of non-working Christmas lights. From December 15th through January 11th, you can drop off non-working or unwanted Christmas lights at boxes in Greater Nevada Credit Union locations in the Reno/Sparks area:

Christmas Tree Recycling
KTMB is announcing the return of our annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program, powered by NV Energy Foundation, which will run from December 26th through January 11th, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, at 3 locations: Reno Sports Complex, Bartley Ranch Park, and Shadow Mountain Sports Complex.
A suggested donation of $5 or more is requested to keep the program running. Trees must be free of lights, ornaments, flocking, tinsel, and no wreaths, please. These trees will be turned into mulch for area parks and beautification projects in Reno and Sparks.

Feeling helpful this holiday season? We are seeking volunteers to help us run our 3 sites. We have 2 shifts running daily: the morning shift is from 9 AM - 1 PM, and the afternoon shift is from 1 PM to 4:30 PM.
We also need business groups and organizations to fill our volunteer slots! Interested organizations can contact our Beautifications and Cleanups Manager, Amanda Mulholland, at amanda@ktmb.org or call at (775)851-5185.

Gear Hut's Green Friday: Urban Neighborhood Clean Up
Join Gear Hut in turning Black Friday GREEN for the 6th year in a row!!
When winter snows start to fall, trash gets buried and plowed into piles, which can block drains that lead directly into the Truckee River. Gear Hut and KTMB want to help protect our urban habitats and environments by removing trash at the source: the city streets! This cleanup will focus on our Wells Ave neighborhoods.
Instead of shopping big box retailers, #OptOutside for a morning of GOOD on Nov. 28th, from 11 AM - 1:30 PM. Gear Hut will be serving up hot coffee, cocoa, and pastries to everyone who comes out for the cleanup! Plus, they will give participants a 10%/20% off coupon to use through the end of the year.

KTMB at America Recycles Day
Join KTMB at The Discovery on Saturday, November 15th, from 10:30-4:30 for a celebration of education on America Recycles Day! America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized day all about recycling. It’s a time to learn, get inspired, and take action. From plastic bottles and aluminum cans to paper and electronics – recycling helps keep tons of materials out of landfills, saves natural resources, and reduces pollution. Whether at home, school, or work, we can all pitch in to recycle more and waste less!
KTMB will be hosting family-friendly activities and sharing resources on our local waste stream, and how recycling plays an important part in it! Learn more at The Discovery’s website via the link below.
Volunteer Tree Planting and Mulching at Lake Park
Join the City of Reno and City Horticulturist Ryan Sharrer for a Volunteer Tree Planting and Mulching at Lake Park. We have 2 volunteer shifts: from 9 am - 12 pm for mulching the Demonstration Garden and from 1 pm - 3 pm for tree planting and dedicating a new park bench.
Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Tools will be provided.

Riverside Drive Bulb Planting
Join the Rotary Club of Reno as they plant 1,600 tulip bulbs along Riverside Drive this Saturday, October 18th, from 9 AM until 12 PM, or until project completion.
Volunteers will meet at Bicentennial Park to receive project directions. Children must be ages 12+ and parents must attend with their child as this is a roadside planting.

KTMB’s Downriver Cleanup 2025
Join us for KTMB’s Downriver Cleanup! We will be cleaning up waterside and in-water sites in partnership with our in-water teams. Afterwards, volunteers will enjoy box lunches from Lunch Works.
We ask that volunteers be at least age 14 due to the nature of the terrain.
This event is made possible by the Sagebrush Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Northern Nevada Public Health, Washoe County, and The Nature Conservancy.

KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup 2025
KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup will be held on September 13th, 2025 from 9 am to 12 pm. Join us at one of several riverside sites across the Reno/Sparks area for a morning of volunteering and celebrate with a volunteer appreciation picnic afterwards!
Raise the River 2025
KTMB’s annual Raise the River fundraiser will be held at The National Automobile Museum on Thursday, August 21st, from 4:30 to 9:30.
Enjoy a mix-and-mingle cocktail reception with refreshments and bespoke experiences crafted by local businesses! Join us for an evening of food, drinks, festivities, and FUNdraising, celebrating our generous donors and dedicated volunteers. There will also be photo ops, prizes, and raffles- all for a great cause. Raised Experience and General tickets will be available for purchase in advance of the event.

KTMB Sustainability Series: Repair What You Wear
Join KTMB for an interactive workshop where we will learn about the environmental impact of fast fashion and microplastic fibers, and how mindful consumption and repairing can contribute to a more sustainable future. This hands-on session will teach you waste reduction strategies along with essential mending techniques, including threading a needle, fixing ripped seams, and some no-sew techniques.
Liz Wilson, our experienced facilitator, will provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring you leave with the confidence to tackle your own clothing repairs at home. The Patagonia Repairs Team will be there to provide hands-on support!
We will practice on pre-cut fabric canvases and have needles, thread, and other tools available for use, but feel free to bring your own tools. Minors must have parent or guardian supervision. No prior sewing experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and have fun! This event is held in partnership with TMCC Student Life.

Valley Wood Flower Planting 2025
Join KTMB and the Valley Wood Taskforce as we help beautify Valley Wood Park on June 7th from 8-11 AM. Working alongside nonprofits like Biggest Little Bee City and the Lahontan Audubon Society, volunteers will remove weeds and greenwaste from the park, clearing trails and spreading mulch among the various gardens. Then they will help enhance the gardens at by planting new flowers and shrubs.
Volunteers will be working outside for the duration of the shift. Please be sure to check the weather in advance and dress accordingly. Long pants (no shorts) and closed-toe shoes are required. Don't forget your water bottle and hat! KTMB will provide all other required tools and supplies, including snacks and work gloves. This event is family-friendly; all children 17 and under must have a responsible adult present.
Bicentennial Flower Planting 2025
KTMB and the City of Reno are working with the Reno Rotary Club to beautify Bicentennial Park with new flowers on the morning of May 31st. Join us for our annual Bicentennial Flower Planting event!
We have two shifts available, our early shift from 8 AM-10 AM and our later shift from 10 AM-12 PM. Volunteers will be planting flowers, and should wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. KTMB will provide tools, gloves, and training. This is a family-friendly event; all children must have a responsible adult present.
KTMB’s Great Community Cleanup 2025
Join us for The Great Community Cleanup 2025 on Saturday, May 3rd, from 8 AM to 12 PM. Join KTMB across the Truckee Meadows at over 20 beautification and cleanup sites throughout the Reno/Sparks area. We will tackle illegal dumpsites, neighborhood parks, and other beautification projects in the area.

To kick off our Sustainability Series, KTMB is teaming up with local composting experts Ryan Sharrer, Horticulturist at the City of Reno, and Oz, Lead Rot Rider at Down To Earth Composting!
Discover how to transform kitchen scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost in this engaging and hands-on Home Composting 101 workshop! Perfect for beginners and aspiring eco-warriors, this session will teach you the basics of composting at home at whatever scale works for you, helping you reduce waste while creating a natural fertilizer for your green spaces.

26th Annual Scheels Turkey Trot
The 26th Annual Scheels Turkey Trot is happening Thursday at 8:30 AM, November 28th, for a preemptive calorie burn before the big feast. Registration is happening now through November 23rd! KTMB's Truckee River Cleanup
Save the date: KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024!
Join KTMB for a cleanup effort along the Truckee River with sites from Verdi to Wadsworth. Sign up now at a site that fits your abilities or by location. Please read the descriptions for each site to help you understand more about the project for that site. Some sites are family-friendly, and some are not, so please read the site descriptions. Plus, there will be a volunteer appreciation picnic after the cleanup with free food, drinks, and prizes. Thank you for volunteering with KTMB!

Help make the Festival the best Pride celebration! As a volunteer, you are the key to making this event a success! KTMB is supporting Northern Nevada Pride's post-festival cleanup. MidTown Spring Cleanup
Join MidTown District Reno, KTMB, and Fox Brewery and Pub for a Spring Cleanup in the MidTown District from 10am to 12pm. After the cleanup all participants will get a select draft beer from Fox Brewery and Pub.
To volunteer, just show up at Fox Brewery at 10am and sign up. KTMB will provide all the gear for the cleanup. We’ll see you there!
