2026 Great Community Cleanup FAQs
Thank you so much for volunteering at our Great Community Cleanup! Without volunteers like you, this large-scale cleanup event would not be possible. Please find answers below to frequently asked questions.
What is the timeframe of the cleanup?
On May 2nd, each site shift begins at 8 AM. We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Each shift ends at 12 PM. Our Volunteer Appreciation Picnic begins at 12 PM, so feel free to join once you finish at your site!
Where can I park for my volunteer shift?
Each site has specific parking that is found in the shift details. Always look out for the “KTMB Event” sign with arrows directing you where to go.
What can I expect at the event?
Each shift has specific project details found at ktmb.org/volunteer. Our Great Community Cleanup is geared toward larger-scale litter and weed removal projects. With this in mind, please prepare to work hard so we can make the most impact in 4 hours!
Who is my point-of-contact?
Before May 2nd, you are welcome to call our office at 775-851-5185 or email volunteers@ktmb.org with questions. Once you arrive at your shift location, find your Project Lead. They are your point-of-contact during your shift.
What should I wear?
Dress for the weather, always! Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves, and pants. We highly recommend dressing in layers to prepare for any changes in weather.
What should I bring?
We will provide all of the tools and supplies needed for each shift. We’ll even bring some snacks! Please bring a reusable water bottle as we will not provide plastic water bottles. Bring a hat and sunscreen for optimum sun protection.
Can I bring my pet with me to my volunteer shift?
Due to the nature of the work, dogs and other pets are not allowed to volunteer with you.
Where is the volunteer appreciation picnic?
This year, our volunteer appreciation picnic will be at Rancho San Rafael’s Peavine Picnic Pavilion. Please reference this map for the pavilion location and closest parking available. Please bring your own reusable plate and cutlery set to ensure we can achieve our zero waste goals. You will even get an extra raffle ticket when you bring your own reusables!
How about pets at the picnic?
Regarding animals at the volunteer appreciation picnic post cleanup, we follow Washoe County’s Park Rules and Regulations: Pets must be on leash at all parks, trails, and open spaces owned by Washoe County. Chapter 95.220.1 of the County Code: Owners must have animals leashed no more than 6 feet in length and under immediate control at all times.
